Books That Changed My Life

A good friend asked me recently “What are FIVE books that have most influenced you in your life.” I paused and thought for a moment and he continued. “You know books that once you were finished something about your way of thought or something you wished for yourself changed.” The first two books were really quite easy for me to come up with.

1.) Carries Story by Molly Weatherfield. (This was the very first BDSM book I read and it sparked fantasies in me that I have since not been able to escape from.)

2.) Finding Meaning In The Second Half Of Life by James Hollis. (This book I read after a particularly hard event in my life. It is a dense book that makes you think about who you are and why you do what you do. I am so much more aware of myself than before I read this book.)

After that the list became a choosing match for me… so many books influence me in small or subtle ways. But I needed to pick three more… so I chose.

3.) The Hell Fire Clubs by Geoffrey Ash (After reading this book I wrote the story Night Of The Taking which was the story I sold on. Grin.)

4.)Clan Of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel (A long ago BF and I read this book aloud to each other before bed time. I had stopped reading years before this moment and reading this book aloud together re-sparked my thirst for the written word. I have not stopped reading since.)

5.) The Pearl by Anonymous (I purchased this book on a whim and have been in love with Victorian erotica ever since.)

So how about you? What are the FIVE books that have most influenced your life?

Hugs to you all,
Lacy.

Oh I honestly couldn’t say. Most books I read affect me. I read to enjoy and move on….I’m never one of those people who hold onto a book forever and re-read them. I know that’s wrong, maybe? Maybe if I thought long and hard about it I could come up with one…hmm.

Grin. Yeah I do have books that I do just as you said, Shelli: read and move on. However, I have only read each of the above books once and they influenced me to a point that I shall always remember them.

Maybe someday I will reread them.

    Lacy.

I loved your blog and it made me think of five books that changed my life. That in itself created a revelation. Here are my 5: (1) They Came In Chains, I don’t remember the author but it taught me that the American black slaves was not accepting of their enslavement the way most” history” books betray them. Made me lift my head a little higher. (2) The Lensmen Series by E.E. Doc Smith. A set of sci fi books that was so fantastic to me that I wanted a lens and to be a part of the Galactic Patrol and I was a grown woman. (3) Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. I was in love with Micheal Valentine Smith and wanted him to think my clothes off and “grok” me. ;-) and that wasn’t even sexual. (4) Kryon by Lee Carroll. A book on spiritual channelling and some universal truths. (5) The Pearl also because it introduced me erotic literature that rang my chimes. l’ve been reading some form of erotica ever since I first picked it up in 1965. Mo

Which books did you pick? Another two books that has me working hard on me is called The Four Agreements and The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz. The ideas are so simple but so difficult because of the simplicity. If you check them out, email me and let me know what you think. Mo
