PRIMAL MALE, the sequel to SEXY DEVIL is here! The official release date is Nov 28th, but rumor is some stores in the U.S already have it, and it’s shipping from Barnes and Nobles right now! I’m pretty excited. This is my first true sequel ever. Sure, with my Berkley Books, they all center around Vancouver, and many of the characters have been secondary ones before, but to me, they’re not really sequels, even though they are slightly connected. Does that make sense?
Maybe it’s because PRIMAL MALE is a paranormal, so there are things -psychic and paranormal aspects- that are carried over? Or maybe it’s because Gina and Caleb, from The Devil Inside, actually have active parts in it as well. After all, they were the start of the whole thing.
Here’s the history on this series. The Devil Inside is my very first paranormal ever written, and it was written about 4 years ago, and published by Liquid Silver Books as a novella. It’s not super paranormal, just a psychic woman with a bit of a wild streak, hooking up with a straight laced guy who doesn’t believe in ‘that stuff”. I’m not a plotter, and although I knew Gina had a brother, when he and his best friend showed up at the end of the story, I KNEW I wanted to write their story. I mean come on… two hot ex-military guys who work private security now, and ones a telepath and the other is an empath? These guys were hot!
However, right around that time is when NY came calling and I got busy with other works like BOUND and TROUBLE for Berkley and THE CRIB and SEX AS A WEPON for Aphrodisia. It wasn’t until I got the right s back for The Devil Inside that I decided what I wanted to do. I pitched the idea to my wonderful editor John, and he like d it. SEXY DEVIL was born. In SEXY DEVIL you have a fleshed out The Devil Inside, and it’s sequel Devil’s Jewel.
Devil’s Jewel didn’t feel like a sequel to me when I wrote it because Devil’s (Gina’s brother) story picked up exactly where The Devil Inside ended. It was just in His POV, so we started to see the wrold as he saw it…which was a lot more paranormal and slighly darker becasue he and his partner were on a demon hunt.
SEXY DEVIL was last years release, and now finally, Drake’s story is here. PRIMAL MALE is a sequel in my mind, because it takes place abotu 6 months after SEXY DEVIL ends, and all of the players from that book are in this one at some point or another as well – in active rolls, not just on the sideline.
While keeping those characters involved made writing it a bit harder for me, in some ways it also made it easier and more enjoyable. And I’m thrilled that readers love sequels, and so far, they are loving PRIMAL MALE!
The reader reviews on B&N are starting to show, and so far, they’re great. Reader Rosalind sums it all up wonderfully, so instead of posting the back cover blurb, I’m going to copy her 5 Star review…
“Ms. White has intrigued the reader by delving into a paranormal world filled with adventure and romance. More interesting is the irony of Drake’s ability to tune in to everyone emotions around him, while having some difficulty coping with his own.
The verbal wizardry of Ms. White quickly delved into this empath’s multi-dimensional personality so that the reader could understand the depth of his anger and frustration, lust and desire that was almost hard to manage. Melissa depicts a clever and emotionally strong woman that not only knows what she wants, but what she needs to remain hidden from everyone else; it’s interesting to see the two as they interact.
The reader also gets an unexpected treat from the other characters in the book to round things out. Unfortunately, there are some commitment issues in the book, making it even that much more enjoyable to read. This is a story that explores some pain and suffering, making it much more real. You need to know what happens in the end and if it can work. Sasha White isn’t afraid to explore the unusual then pull you in, so that you’re wrapped around her fingers. Also, readers will be pleasantly surprised at the bonus at the conclusion of the story. I truly adored it! Bravo, Ms. White for another excellent tale of love.”
YAY!! I’m so happy! SO happy, that I think more sequels are a definite possibility. What do you think? Think you’d like to see more of these supernatural hunters and their families?
Cheryl McInnis at Romance Junkies.com enjoys sequels, and gave PRIMAL MALE 5 Blue Ribbons!
“Author Sasha White has outdone herself yet again with PRIMAL MALE. This sequel to last year’s SEXY DEVIL is fast-paced, breathtakingly sensual and riveting. I finished this story in one sitting because I couldn’t tear myself away. The chemistry between Drake and Mel was very hot and the love scenes steamy and explicit, but even more compelling for me was the very real emotional connection between the two of them, and watching their relationship grow was deeply satisfying. PRIMAL MALE is yet another example of why Sasha White has become a favorite of readers who love both a well written story and sizzling love scenes. Pick this book up, and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.”
To celebrate the release of PRIMAL MALE, I’m giving away a copy of SEXY DEVIL. Hi, Sasha, I have occasionally, but to be honest, I haven’t done it more often because I’m *hanging head in shame* uh, lazy. I do try to take the time to e-mail authors directly to let them know when I’ve loved a book, but don’t always post a review because it’s harder to organize my thoughts about the book in a more formal way, suitable for public consumption… Thanks for the reminder that it makes a difference to you writers!
by Fedora · November 23rd, 2008 at 3:52 pmHi Sasha! Would love to be in the contest for SEXY DEVIL. Too its so great to say Hi, its been a while!
I mainly post reviews on my blog and too add that review to mostly Amazon. I wish I did it for every book I read, really. Its mostly because I forget. I remember that I put a post up for a book, 2 months after I read it and I was the only one who did, so I realize its important because sometimes more will follow to post a review too.
There are some books that get 100′s of reviews and I don’t add to that. I often add reviews to smaller publishers that have their book out in print (not all ebook publishers have area on their site to post a review, which I think would be good to have there for reader input). I often e-mail the author after I read their book. I tend to put up a review on Amazon more for the Aphrodisiac books. I really love this imprint and I too need to do it for each book. I was just writing down some goals at my blog yesterday, and one was that too, I recommend reads to other readers during chats, on the open yahoo group chats too. I know I get alot of my reads from other readers who have told me about the books as well. So that word of mouth is important as well! I’m gonna add now to put up more on Amazon! First time I’m too making some reading goals! I do love to chat about them so I can do it in a better way!
by Caffey · November 23rd, 2008 at 8:06 pmI already have Sexy Devil so please don’t enter me. That being said I do talk about the books I read on my blog but I don’t think I’m up to review level, like at Amazon. I’m working on honing my skills at organizing my thoughts and what I felt while reading it.
by Brandy W · November 23rd, 2008 at 8:28 pmI’ve never tried to write a review because my writing skills are not at a level that I’d feel comfortable leaving a review for other people to read. I have on occasion written a short note to an author to tell them I enjoyed their book.
by annalisa · November 23rd, 2008 at 9:13 pmI don’t post reviews. Since I received chemotherapy, I suffer from something called “brain fog”. I have a hard time verbalizing my thoughts. I forget words and phrases and personally feel that I must sound like an idiot. This problem carries over into any writing I do. I tend to write very short one-to-two sentences because anything longer is very frustrating and labor intensive.
*you don’t want to know how long it took me to write this, and once I could have zipped it off in no time – sigh*
by Stacie Mc · November 23rd, 2008 at 9:18 pmEmails to authors are ALWAYS good. *grin* Never think we want reviews more than emails. Direct from reader input is always top of the list!
As for reviews on Amazon and blogs and things…as far as I’m concerned, and I think most authors will say the same thing, we don’t care if they’re professional or carefully thought out…we just want to know what readers like and don’t like.
Sure we write what we like, but if it weren’t for readers we wouldn’t be able to write as much because we’d wouldn’t be able to call it a job. *g*
And Caffey, I agree, posting reviews for the books that don’t have a lot, or are from small publishers is especially great.
by Sasha White · November 23rd, 2008 at 9:27 pmStacie, I appreciate you taking the time, and making the effort to respond. I know a little about what you’re talking about…a very close family member went though the same thing. Best wishes for fast healing.
by Sasha White · November 23rd, 2008 at 9:32 pmHi, Sasha
. But I do write notes to new authors i have come across, and I show my support by going to there book signings.
by natasha · November 24th, 2008 at 10:42 amI too hang my head down in shame
I don’t really post reviews online but sometimes I do email the author and let them know them know that I absolutely loved their book. I haven’t really read a romance book that I haven’t read. But I will tell the authors that I like their writing. I don’t post reviews because I wouldn’t know if I was writing it right for one thing but I do give my opinion and I am always looking for more time.
by Lexee · November 24th, 2008 at 11:40 amHi Sasha! I have posted a few reviews online for a few books this year, but it’s not something I do regularly. There have been a few different sites I’ve posted to including B&N.
by Karin · November 24th, 2008 at 3:34 pmI thought I won copy of SEXY DEVIL already but I guess I was mistaken, so here I am again…not that not winning will keep me from purchasing copies of both books. Let’s see, why no (personal) reviews of the books I read? I want to–seriously. I just have so little time and very limited energy for my own writing and the reviews I do for two other sites. Plus I have this whole “perfectionism” issue–everything I write has to meet a certain impossible standard. (I know. Gotta get over that). I’m working on it though. Hopefully once I fulfill my obligations to one of the sites, I’ll be able to take more time to post reviews of my own. Gawd knows I read enough books to serve as a blog reviewer!
by catie · November 24th, 2008 at 3:45 pmHi Sasha,
I rarely can put into words my feelings. I would love a chance to win a copy of ‘Sexy Devil’!
by Susan · November 24th, 2008 at 4:05 pmI do write occasional reviews on B&N. The main reason I don’t do it more often is my lack of writing skills.
Hot diggity-dang! A new “Sasha” title –hooray!
Big Hugs,

I haven’t posted an online review, yet. Maybe I’ll talk myself into it soon. I do send emails and notes through contact forms to authors about their books.
by Janet H · November 25th, 2008 at 1:00 amI don’t have a website or a blog to post reviews on, but I have done a few reviews where I’m given a book in return for a review. I’ve come out of the experience with new authors to follow which I might not have considered reading otherwise. It has been a very positive experience for me.
