Ah, yes. The hangover. No, not the one from drinking too much. Though that might be preferable. I’m talking about a holiday hangover. Christmas is over and I’m slowly recovering. The Pacific Northwest got hammered with snow storms. As I said on my personal blog it canceled just about any plans I had. Meaning no fabulous holiday parties
We’re supposed to get rain today–which in turn will melt AND FLOOD all that snow. But so far I haven’t seen a thing. Just a ton of white stuff on the ground that I’m a bit tired of.
Then I look around thinking once again my child ended up with more presents than she needed. There’s wrapping paper, packaging materials, and boxes exploding out of my garbage and recycling cans. Add to it that garbage service was canceled last week (and maybe this week?) due to snow. That’s quite the back up.
And then I’m calculating the monetary damage to my pocket book from the 2008 holiday season–while trying to ignore the beep of my email which likely signals ANOTHER store have freaking amazing sales. Although, I do confess to hitting up the Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale online (do you blame me?) with some of my Christmas money that I received as a gift.
Then there’s the bad eating the last couple months, the candy I’ve been receiving, and conveniently forgotten gym membership. And we can’t forgot soon we’ll be taking down the decorations/tree in the near future…
I had a great holiday over all, but have to say I’m excited to welcome in a fresh 2009 next week. Not like I have any big plans or anything to ring in the actual New Year.
How was your holiday season? Did you get what you wanted for a present? Not shop at all? Or did you do as Sasha suggested and drink a ton of eggnog? Share!!

So I’m one of those Seattlites who was also impacted by this stupid a** snow. I had big plans to get the gym everyday and catch up on my TBR pile these couple weeks that I have off between the end of one quarter and the beginning of another. Did any of that happen? Well, I got caught up on my TBR pile but due to the damn snow, I haven’t been to the gym. The one good thing about this…I’ve maintained my weight but that has to do with being sick during this whole snowstorm! I’m not bitter at all! LOL!
by Danielle · December 27th, 2008 at 1:43 amFor me-as long as I still have the love of my family and friends, then I got everything that I wanted for Christmas. I do get after Christmas presents since the snow impacted my parents and brother’s ability to get me giftcards to my favorite latte stand and nail salon so that’s a bonus!
Ah nice, Danielle! Yes, I believe we were supposed to be out tonight actually–right about now! LOL. Doing karaoke. *Sigh* I HATE this weather.
Glad you had a lovely Christmas!
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2008 at 2:01 amWell, I’m at the other end of the country where snow in the winter in an unfortunate fact of life. Right now we’ve had rain on top of the snow so everything is nasty ice.
I’m also recovering from the holidays, although I’m off the day job until after New Year’s so that’s helping with the recovery process
by Natasha Moore · December 27th, 2008 at 9:31 amNatasha, yay on being off until New Years. That’s really nice! See at least since you guys get the snow over all the time you know how to handle it and our prepared. Seattle doesn’t get this and we don’t have the amount of equipment/buses/de-icer for the planes to deal. The whole city just shuts down. It sucks. LOL. Now that it’s raining a bit it’s just this really deep slush and no one can drive in it. It’s worse than the snow.
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2008 at 11:45 amGirl I woke up this morning feeling like i’d come off a three day binge! I even turned down a possible date last night (if he would have showed at all!) to stay home alone, in the quiet..ordering books from bn.com and catching up on the DVR.
by Ames · December 27th, 2008 at 12:04 pmLOL, Amie! Sometimes you NEED that quiet night alone. I haven’t had one of those in a looooong time.
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2008 at 12:16 pmOK! What’d I do? Went out and bought a weight bench and a treadmill. And had my daughter work up an exercise program for me.
And I did it! And am waiting to do another right now.
clearly the plan for 2009 will be, get into shape, stay in shape and get some balance in regard to my health and stress. If I work out, I’ll be able to stay in my seat and write as much as I need to.
I’m staring at some family stresses that will come and go, flare and recede and to manage that and the writing schedule for the year, I’ll need to take care of the old bod.
that, and I wanna look good for the NYC conference I’m going to in March.
I’m jealous of the quiet evening, Ames. The dh is home from work for the season and I feel a little crowded. I like my alone time.
And I’m fed up and tired of the same snow that hit Seattle (we likely got more!) And fog! Fog and snow…arrgh. Big blocks of snow are sliding off the roof and wow…that sounds weird.
Ok…time to go work out. Wish me luck.
Bonnie
by Bonnie Edwards · December 27th, 2008 at 1:44 pmI agree, Bonnie, with the health and workout. I’m on the same boat!
Yes this snow is awful! North Seattle has gotten about 20″ probably since the last two weeks and it’s not going anywhere on any of the back roads. I just spent an hour shoveling out my car which was stuck at the end of the street (couldn’t drive up).
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2008 at 2:17 pmLe sigh. Beautiful holiday as always. Yummy food. Yummy presents. Awesome time with family. I’m exhausted. My only goal is to get my tree down by September 2009.
No snow here, thank God but it is super cold.
by Emma · December 27th, 2008 at 10:21 pmI think a tree down by Sept. 2009 is a great idea
Glad you had a good holiday, Emma!
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2008 at 10:56 pmTaking my tree down tomorrow!
Susan….the weekends the kids are gone is the only alone time I get…and I tend to hermitize so I can decompress! Makes it hard to date/have a life LOL
by Ames · December 28th, 2008 at 12:41 amBut I’m determined now that the holidays are over to use my Wii Fit more!
Ah, see, Amie, it’s times like this I wish I shared custody. But I’ve got full so I never get time off unless I get babysitting. Makes it hard to date
