I’m a bit of a music fanatic–even though I don’t have a musical bone in my body and can’t play a note–I love to listen to it, love buy it, love to watch the videos, I even love cheesy fan videos (and my best friend likes to send me links to especially awful ones).
So, I play list my works in progress. Sometimes it’s a single album or artist. Sometimes it’s a variety. The novella I’m working on is for a Big Cats shifter anthology (that I think comes out in the middle of next year), and the heroine is really dominating the story for me right now. She’s fiery and mercurial and totally fascinates the very dutiful hero. I just started the novella last week, so we’re in the early stages yet. The hero will add songs to the list as I go, but here’s the play list (mostly for the heroine) so far.
Something in Your Mouth by Nickelback
Smooth by Santana & Rob Thomas
Crazy Bitch by Buckcherry
Gotta be Somebody by Nickelback
I’m a Bitch by Meredith Brooks
6 Underground by Sneaker Pimps (Oakenfold Remix)
Reach Out by Hilary Duff
SEX by Nickelback
And here’s a few videos that I think really work, too.
Circus by Britney Spears. This one is just wicked and, with the flying whips, has a little flavoring of BDSM to it that I totally love.
6 Underground by Sneaker Pimps. This is the non-remixed version. I’m into both versions at the moment. This video is a little dark, a little paranormal, and a little sexy. Nice.
Piece of Me by Britney Spears. It has this “don’t tell me how to live” vibe to it that totally suits my current heroine. She got turned into a shape-shifter against her will and refuses to live how shifters live just because someone took her choice away. For whatever reason, Britney’s attitude in this video flows with that.

by Crystal Jordan :: Blog » Blog Archive » Aphrodisia Authors · February 28th, 2009 at 3:22 amWow!!!! I hadn’t heard “Circus” before. Now I have to have it!!! And Sneaker Pimps? Awesome!!! I love the playlist!
by Jennifer McKenzie · February 28th, 2009 at 9:55 amThanks! Eden Bradley turned me on to the Sneaker Pimps a little while ago.
by Crystal Jordan · February 28th, 2009 at 9:57 amI love dutiful heroes! And also I’m a Bitch by Meredith Brooks. Awesome choice for an unapologetic, take-no-prisoners heroine.
by Louisa Edwards · February 28th, 2009 at 11:37 amThanks! She generally loves people, but she’s understandably pissed about her situation
by Crystal Jordan · February 28th, 2009 at 11:50 amLove Nickelback. Those are on my playlist as well.
by Mel · February 28th, 2009 at 1:51 pmThe first time I heard the Sneaker Pimps was during the movie “The Saint.” I bought the soundtrack just for that song.
by Jane · February 28th, 2009 at 9:50 pmI totally just watched The Saint yesterday, which I’ve watched a million times, and realized that song was on the soundtrack! Makes me like the movie even more
by Crystal Jordan · February 28th, 2009 at 9:53 pmI do the same thing! If I can’t have a playlist when I am writing, I can’t write!
by Devyn Quinn · February 28th, 2009 at 11:08 pmAnd I find that when I have my playlist, it gets me in the mood of the story and I can just put it on repeat for a background noise that keeps the low going. It’s great!
by Crystal Jordan · February 28th, 2009 at 11:29 pmYou know, I LOVED when Melissa Mahr (sp??) published the soundtrack for her Inked novel in the back. I love that idea.
Lately it has been all about Dropkick Murphys for me.
by Chrissy · March 1st, 2009 at 6:01 pmI love playlists. I’m thinking I should put mine on my blog too.
by gwen hayes · March 1st, 2009 at 6:08 pmRocking! I want to meet this girl.
by Jeannie · March 1st, 2009 at 6:40 pmGreat list! I usually find that somewhere along the line of writing a particular book, a particular song will suddenly jump put at me and really show me my book in glorious sound
