People are into some interesting stuff. Fetishes from flesh hooks to flashing to French maids to feathers to figging… and that’s just under “F.” Assuming it’s Safe, Sane, and Consensual, that’s great by me! To each their own.
So, I’m curious. What’s hot, what’s boring or gross or humorous, what’s frightening to you in a kinky erotic romance story? Is electroplay intriguing or scary, or does it completely depend on the circumstance? Is vanilla (a.k.a. non-kinky) lovemaking acceptable in a BDSM story, or does the eye skim past it to the more twisted stuff? Does domination, or a flogging, or a skillful spanking or rope bondage work for you, or not, or is it all about context? Is consensual nonconsent play a total dealbreaker, or a secret fantasy? I have a few of these things in Sweet and Dirty — yep, including vanilla.
Here’s a new excerpt from Sweet and Dirty.
I’d love to hear what you think about kink. What kinky scenes have you read that worked for you, or didn’t work for you?
I’m giving away a copy of my January release, Sweet and Dirty, to one winner out of those of you who leave a comment. Sweet and Dirty contains two long novellas, or “two books in one!” as Terri from Night Owl Romance puts it. But fair warning, these stories “both explore the edgier side of BDSM, going further than just a little bondage.”
For a SECOND chance to win, feel free to visit the Goodreads giveaway of Sweet and Dirty. The giveaway opens today and goes on all month. Goodreads will pick a winner of Sweet and Dirty on December 10th.

This sounds like a GREAT book!!!! PICK ME PICK ME!!! lol
by Aurora · November 10th, 2009 at 12:37 pmOther than the golden shower part (I think it’s unsanitary), the rest of your excerpt sounds great. The only scenes that don’t work for me are humilation ones…other than that, I like reading all kinds of BDSM stories.
by Stephanie · November 10th, 2009 at 1:56 pmI have not yet read anything that has been too much for me. I love the edgier, harder core stories. Now, I am sure that I have not even delved into the full realm of what is out there.
The only time that I have liked vanilla in a BDSM story, is when it is to prove a point…that this really is not what they want, but the heroine or hero think that maybe it is. However, I think that if it were written differently into a storyline, that might work too. Just all depends on the characters, the content, etc.
Thanks for the interesting topic!

Thanks, Aurora!
I truly appreciate it.
Awesome, Stephanie, thanks. Yes, humiliation scenes can be a delicate balance. “Golden showers” don’t do a bit for me either. :shrugs:
Amy, that’s fascinating. Yes, I love edgier, harder-core stories too, when they push the right buttons. Have you read Wicked Ties by Shayla Black? A good erotic romantic suspense that achieves a graceful balance, imo. Kushiel’s Dart is another keeper if you like the fantasy genre. Just a really different take on kink.

I have read Wicked Ties, and I loved it! I generally do not read books more than once, but I have read this at least twice. It is one of my all time favorites!
Kushiel’s Dart…I have never heard of this. But I am going to check it out for sure! Thanks!

Humiliation is the only thing that doesn’t work for me.
by Estella · November 10th, 2009 at 4:41 pmCan’t wait for this book to be released. Can’t go wrong with two stories in one book. As long as both parties are agree and are into it, I have no problem.
by Jane · November 10th, 2009 at 6:25 pmoh this book looks awesome. I dont like scenes with minors or complete and totally humiliation. All in all as long as everyone involved is enjoying themself then go for it. Would love to win the book. Thanks for the chance.
by sara hurt · November 10th, 2009 at 6:45 pmScenes with degradation and total humiliation don’t work for me. As far as consensual nonconsent I have to feel if its someone’s fantasy go for it. But that can get pretty scary, I think, along with electroplay. If its written well and balanced with the story and characters it can be quite erotic.
by Armenia · November 10th, 2009 at 9:24 pmI think that BDSM stories can be hot and still respectful of the characters. It should be about fantasy, submitting yourself to your lover, trusting them with your body or vice versa, depending on your role.
A good story can have all types of sex, vanilla or otherwise. If it’s a good story, told well and all the dots are connected, the kind of sex is not important.

by Deidre · November 10th, 2009 at 10:07 pmI think that humiliation tends to not be my cuppa, and is sometimes hard to read. It does truly depend on how it’s written and whether it’s clear that the participants desire that scenario. And I prefer those that really reveal the emotional connection between the characters, where the physical’s reflecting their inner passions. Congrats on your latest, Christina!
