My apologies for posting late, today, but I’ve been dithering. Yep…no excuse whatsoever. I’m not sure if it’s the time of year or just the fact that I have so much to do I don’t know where to begin next. There’s the first chapter for StarFire, due on my editor’s desk by the end of the year as a teaser in the back of the second book in the DemonSlayers series, HellFire. There’s the next Wolf Tales, number eleven, that I’ve got to write and deliver by February 15. There’s the Christmas dinner menu to plan, with no idea if I’m cooking for twenty-five or forty. I know that will include a whole roasted top sirloin, a baked salmon and roasted veggies and potatoes among other things, but a head count would be nice…I’ve got the boughs stacked up in my potting shed so I can build the Christmas wreaths I give away every year, and the Christmas cards to buy, not to mention address and send. Of course, there’s still a huge stack of DemonFire postcards to mail to my readers–I’ve been promising them since October–and the promotion to gear up for before Wolf Tales 9 comes out in a couple of weeks.

So guess that’s where I’ll start–with Wolf Tales 9. I was really shocked when it only got a two-star review in Romantic Times magazine, especially since I expected so much better! I think this is the best book in the series so far, but the reviewer though it filled with “gushy emotion-fests that only diehard fans of the series will be able to tolerate.” LOL…well, personally I love those gushy emotion-fests, so I’m hoping my “diehard” fans will more than tolerate them–I’m hoping you’ll love them as much as I do! This book was written as a result of a poll I did with my newsletter readers last year when I asked them which characters they wanted to know more about.
The winners, hands down, were Mik and AJ, so their story of their early years and how they met in Folsom Prison as cell mates is the longest. The one that really surprised me, though, was Luc and Jake’s “how we met” story. It actually unfolded as a complete surprise to me as I was writing it, and gave me a new appreciate of Jacob Trent. He can be sort of an arrogant pain in the ass at times, but there’s a much softer, more vulnerable side to him I never expected. It was fun exploring Anton’s early years, including how he met Oliver and again how he met Stefan and ended up cursing him–which led to Stefan’s five long years trapped as half man and half wolf.
There are others in the book as well, including a couple of unexpected events that add to the overall tension of the story, but the main thrust of the book is the various Chanku and their introduction into the pack. I do hope you’ll enjoy the book, and to get you in the mood, I’ll be giving away a couple of copies of past releases of either Sexy Beast or Wolf Tales to those who leave a comment.
So, let me know…are you ever caught up with too much to do which results in doing nothing? And if so, how do you get past it? For me, it requires just sitting down at my computer and triaging what has to be done first–and hoping I go beyond the act of merely putting things on a list!
To all of you, Happy Holidays, and don’t let the hustle and bustle of the season keep you from finding the time to read a few good books!

Try not to sweat the 2 star review. Some of my favorite books I’ve read were totally trashed by reviewers.
I’ve never read any of the Wolf Tales Books but will most definitely be adding them to my “must read” pile now.
Congrats on Wolf Tales 9 release on December 29th!
by Christina R. · December 4th, 2009 at 2:33 pmI can totally agree with you about always having a full plate. My kids take so many activities and I home school so it seems there is never any free time. I am always trying to find time to get my reading in. Which has become my new thing to do. Over the last year I have become an avid reader and am waiting on the release of your newest book. I think the way we get Kate
by Jennifer Cochran · December 4th, 2009 at 2:41 pmAll we have to do is stop take a big breath and figure out exactly what needs to be done that day. Don’t stress yourself out to much. Sometimes don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it. In the end it will always work out and all the stress of the situation will be gone. Happy Holidays enjoy your family get together and be thankful for what you have. I would also love to win a book.
Thanks Jennifer
Jennifer
Kate, first of all congrats to your upcoming release of Wolf Tales 9.
You shouldn’t worry about the review. Reviews are sometimes mood things and maybe the reviewer had a bad day.
by Danny · December 4th, 2009 at 2:42 pmTake those words in stride. Were they written by someone with a reader following like yours? How many books in that series? You must be doing something right
Congratulations!!!
by Virginia C · December 4th, 2009 at 2:43 pmSorry some of that doesn’t make sense my phone is doing funny things today. : )
by Jennifer Cochran · December 4th, 2009 at 2:43 pmI know it can be upsetting not getting a good review but honestly I rating don’t effect my buying a book. I would try not to worry too much about it. You can’t please everyone
by Margie Hall · December 4th, 2009 at 2:46 pmHi,
just flying in to say hi and congrats on the upcoming release, Kate!!
I really enjoy your books!!!
Since December started things have gotten even busier with me. I thought I couldn’t get any busier, but it seems I can. Thankfully I am almost all done with Christmas prep, just the house needs a good cleaning and food shopping needs to be done.
Thankfully I have time off after the 18th until Jan 4th….yippee!!!!

by Valerie · December 4th, 2009 at 2:47 pmI believe I have become the queen of dithering. I use to be more organized than I am now. Why???I don’t know
Maybe age ?? I usually get everything I want done, but sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up!!!
I am sure Wolf Tales 9 is just as good as all the others, if not better, like you said.
Happy Holidays to everyone!!! Judy
by Judy Cox · December 4th, 2009 at 2:49 pmKate,
Good blog. I tend to dither when things get too unorganized. Today being a prime example. I’ve been sick all week, so now everything needs to be done.
I was just psyching myself up to start organizing and do it. I never get anything finished until I make myself just start. I may bang things around while doing it at first, but eventually I settle in and get it done. I just have to remind myself that this is how it gets done.
Have a great day,
by Susilien · December 4th, 2009 at 2:55 pmWhen I saw your newsletter and you mentioned the “bad” review, I wanted to write to you right away – which I did on Facebook…I think I even commented on it BEFORE you posted about it there, just to let you know how ONE reader feels.
I am so pumped for this book!!! I love getting back stories on characters in books. One author that I read, when people ask her about the characters and their background story, she just responds with “he won’t tell me”. VERY frustrating when the background actually MATTERS to the reader.
by Tori · December 4th, 2009 at 2:55 pmYour readers have told you that they want background stories and you are giving them what they want.
I know it sucks, but what do you REALLY care about…what the reviews want or what the readers want???
As for having a full plate this time of year, it makes me glad that everyone knows I don’t bake (my sister does that) and that I married a chef for a reason!!!
{{{HUGS}}}
Just droping by to see what is new. Congrats on the new book
by JOYE · December 4th, 2009 at 2:58 pmI would rather have a lot to do than a few things-I seem to procrastinate then. I ususallymakke a list and try to do all of the things on that list.
Happy Holidays
Hi, I just wanted to say, I own all of the Wolf Tales books to date and I love every one of them. i thank you for sharing The Chanku lives with me. Keep up the good work
by Bridget West · December 4th, 2009 at 3:28 pmTwo stars? Don’t worry about it. Your Wolf Tales series is the BEST romance series I have ever read. After I finish one book, I’m itching to read the next. I have read the series up to book 8 at least 8 times, and Wolf Tales 9 is going to THE birthday present for me.
The characters in Wolf Tales are the most three dimentional characters I have seen on a written page. Thank yo sooo much for writing and I hope this series continues all the way to when Lilly and Alex have kids of their own!
by Ariel Wright · December 4th, 2009 at 3:38 pmWhenever there is something I do not want to do I will wander the house starting and stopping chores to keep distracted. It is a matter of time distortion in that I think the task will take “forever” so I do not start. I finally just have to bite the bullet and sit down with the task and work on it. Sometimes setting a timer for 15 minutes and then giving permission to stop will get more done.
by Lindsey Ekland · December 4th, 2009 at 3:39 pmThe most important thing, for me is to love every story I write, because if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be true to myself. It’s just as important that my readers love the story, though I know you’re not going to love every single one.
Reading is such a subjective pleasure. A plot or character that appeals to one person might leave another reader out in the cold, but that’s because we all take our individual experience to every book we read. On that note…it’s time to look and see what everyone’s got to say!
by KateDouglas · December 4th, 2009 at 3:43 pmHi Kate!,
I’m a champion at dithering. But like you, I always manage to get things done. Most of them on time. I’m not saying I’m sane after I do the big rush to the finish line, but it gets done.
Have a great holiday.
CC
by Christie Craig · December 4th, 2009 at 3:51 pmOh my god Kate, your books are soooo good… I’ve read all Wolf tales from 1 to 8 in 2 1/2 weeks… I absolutelly can’t wait to read Wolf Tales 9… I have to have it…
by Kathy · December 4th, 2009 at 3:56 pmThanks, Christina! I hope you do take a look at the series, though I always suggest readers start with the first book. I’ve written Wolf Tales like a soap opera, and the novellas in the Sexy Beast anthologies are all part of the Chanku story. However, if you start in the middle, it should still make sense to you!
Jennifer, I can’t imagine home schooling my kids! They were WAY smarter than me by about the sixth grade! I’m impressed with you moms who are able to do such a tough job with your kids…and I agree about finding reading time. I would think you’d almost have to, just to keep your mind alert enough to keep up with the kids!
Thanks, Danny. I will definitely keep that in mind. Of course, I have my own way of dealing with the minor pitfalls in life–I ask myself, will puppies or small children be harmed by this? If the answer is no, I’m okay!
Good point, Virginia, and I’ll think of that when I start work on Wolf Tales 11, which is the 20th story in the series!!!
I really don’t worry about it, Margie, but thank you! I worry more about my regular readers than I ever would about a review.
Valerie, good for you on getting stuff done, and enjoy the time off…did I mention I’ve got a book coming out during your vacation that you REALLY need to read?
Dammit, Judy! Are you telling me I have to share my crown?
And yeah, I think age might have something to do with it!
Susilien–I’m sorry you’ve been sick. Sure hope you’re feeling better asap. And yeah, it’s amazing how that works. Starting something instead of worrying about it usually leads to finishing!
Tori, first of all, thank you, and I must say, obviously you married well. A chef? Be still my heart!!!
I married a cowboy (and no, we don’t have horses) but there’s nothing he can’t do (except cook) and he’s a great mechanic…there’s a lot to be said about a guy who’s good with his hands…but I digress!
I’ve learned to listen to my characters by getting way into their point of view. When I wrote Jake’s story, for instance, I became Jake. I thought of what his life was like as if it had happened to me, and it all unfolded, almost like reading his diary. I will admit that his story left me really shaken when it was written. I learned things about him I never expected…and Luc, too. Lucien Stone always seems so aloof, except with Tia. I saw a different side of him in this book.
Joye, that’s really true. When I realize I’m getting backed up with way too much, I have no choice but to get my butt in gear and get things done–and I do.
Wow, Bridget! Thank you–which reminds me–if anyone who wins already has the whole series, I will send you a copy of WT9 as soon as I get them.
Thank you, Ariel. That is so nice of you…and don’t be so sure that Lily and Alex will end up together. They’re almost like brother and sister right now, so you never know what will happen in the future. Since my editor makes jokes about Wolf Tales 30, I’m hoping the series will continue for a long time. (I think the jokes about 30 are why Wolf Tales 9 is a number and not roman numerals–the visual for Wolf Tales XXX was tough!)
Lindsey, I am exactly the same way, which is why I call it dithering. I can screw around and kill more time than anyone I know, but when I actually set myself to the task, the work gets done.
by KateDouglas · December 4th, 2009 at 4:02 pmHey Christie! Same here, m’dear. I tend to think of dithering as a form of “procrastional therapy” that’s got to be at least a little good for me! Hope your holidays are wonderful!
LOL…Kathy, you’ve been busy! Now, have you read the Sexy Beast books? My novellas in those anthologies are all part of the series.
by KateDouglas · December 4th, 2009 at 4:04 pmI live by dithering. I work at something for a while, then go and do something else, then go back . . . it’s just how I get things done. And then I don’t feel “trapped” doing something. Like I write for a while, then do dishes, then write, then read, then watch TV, then play a game–I call it puttering but dithering works too.
by Anitra Lynn McLeod · December 4th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Okay, Kate, I’m gonna come clean. I am a big procrastinator (sp???who cares!).There are many times that I don’t know where to start my tasks, so I go to the top of my list: READING. Yup. And the time goes by so fast, that when I check the clock …..I decide I will have to forget today’s tasks, and get on them tomorrow. (OK, this doesn’t happen ALL the time, but enough .) I tell myself that maybe my list was too big and needs some trimming. And things do pretty much get done, just not when I had planned to do them… LOL Keep up the good work!!!
by Barbara Hansen · December 4th, 2009 at 4:20 pmHi, Kate! It does all get overwhelming, and I’m not even an incredible author, like you are! If I really start feeling panicked, I try to sit and write everything down–it helps to see what actually needs doing and then I can start somewhere rather than shrieking like a banshee in my head
And I often need to remind myself that while many things are urgent, far fewer are truly important. Reading’s still important!
Hope you’re enjoying the month, despite the busy-ness!
by Fedora · December 4th, 2009 at 4:25 pmHi Kate,
Queen of Dithering, is that like Master of Procrastination? I use to be organized, all corporate business, type-A personality. Now, after having kids, not so much. I don’t sweat the small stuff anymore.
by Armenia · December 4th, 2009 at 4:37 pmKate – I am great at putting off something I don’t want to do, but we do always manage to juggle and keep it going. I am soooo glad that you do write as quickly as you do, more books for us to read!
I am excited to read WT9 since I always buy your books right away and am anxiously awaiting WT10 to see who dies! The suspense is killing me!
by Mary Stubbs · December 4th, 2009 at 4:43 pmLove reading back stories about characters in my favorite books. Can’t wait for Sexy Beast 9.
by Dianne Meierotto · December 4th, 2009 at 4:55 pmWould love to write more but my one year old great granddaughter just woke up and we have some Elmo books to read.
Hi Kate,
don’t worry about your two stars, we love all your books and I’m looking forward to every new release of yours!! Can’t wait to read WT 9!
Happy Holidays to you and your family!
by Eva S · December 4th, 2009 at 4:57 pmHappens to me all the time-I review and read and work and come home from work, sit at the computer and stare at the screen trying to decide what to do. Then I do absolutely nothing productive, or I play a game or just cruise the net doing nothing much. Then I get further behind and just keep sinking. Then I have the big epiphany and get lots done and start the cycle all over.
by Nancy Gilliland · December 4th, 2009 at 5:03 pmI personally like a good romance and even some gushy stuff so you get my vote. I would not put to much stock in that review, since I have often found that what one person hates another loves, it is in the end a matter of taste. If you are happy with your story and it is selling well that is all that really matters. By the way I like the cover of wolf tales 9 wowser. Happy Holidays and keep writing those wonderful stories.
by gloria · December 4th, 2009 at 5:29 pmWell the fact is I’m very organized and I all ways make a list at the end of the day as to what has to be done the next day. My friend Nicole says she just waits until Sunday to do it all. LOL
by Tracey · December 4th, 2009 at 6:18 pmI wouldn’t worry about the review either. I have all of the books in the Wolftales series and I can’t wait to read Wolftales 9. You are tops in my book so don’t sweat it.
by Latricia Cason · December 4th, 2009 at 6:34 pmJust Love the Wolf Tale Books have read them all. I’m looking forward to your new series too. Thank you so much for all entertainment.
by Mary · December 4th, 2009 at 7:20 pmI don’t care what the reviews say, your books are great!!!
by Julie Swaney · December 4th, 2009 at 7:39 pmJulie S.
WOW!!! It sounds like you need to RSVP Christmas Dinner, have a personal secretary or friend help with the Christmas cards and mail outs as well as your Christmas Wreaths. Hope you manage to coral someone into it..tell them oen of your readers said they must!
As for your books…a 2 star rating? They had to have been out of their mind, your stuff is wonderful and I enjoy reading them all! Cannot wait for the next books to come out.
As for you I wish you and yours all the very best this year! May it be filled with joy and laughter, good food and friends, lots of swag, and love and peace.
Blessings,
by Kimberly Trevino · December 4th, 2009 at 7:52 pmKimberly
Well at the moment I have way too much to not nearly enough time to do it all in and it has resulted in me trying to do everything at once which isn’t getting me close enough to being done. shoot me now Please.
by Larena Wirum · December 4th, 2009 at 7:55 pmWell, Kate, your secret is out!!! Based on your blog, you have 4 clones of yourself running around making wreaths, planning menus, cooking, and answering mail, to leave you free to write.
I have all the WTs and SBs and have to reread the most recent in preparation for new episodes coming out. I understand what you mean about dropping the roman numerals from the titles (I thought they were all XX or XXX to begin with).
Have a great Holiday Season, and take time out to breath and kiss Hubby once in a while.
Phyllis
by Phyllis Butcher · December 4th, 2009 at 8:30 pmHi Kate!! I’m the world’s greatest ditherer!!! I think some times I have adult ADD.
Hang in there, it will get done! Don’t worry about the 2 star review – I don’t pay much attention to them!! Merry Christmas!! btw, I’d love to win!!!
by Martha Lawson · December 4th, 2009 at 8:34 pmI didn’t used to consider myself a procrastinator. When faced with a pile of challenges I would keep my eye on the goal and just keep shoveling.
In the last couple of years, however, my responsibilities in the family and at work changed. Now, when I face a pile of challenges, my wits seem to scatter hither, thither and yon. I will no sooner wrestle a few into submission when the next surprising event blindsides me…and then I must deal with it at half-wattage, no less.
The siren song of book, blog post or nap seduces me away from tasks at hand. Thankfully, it doesn’t affect work but household chores, on the other hand….
by Little Lamb Lost · December 4th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Kate as usual it is a wonderful blog. As to the reviewer, their opinions dont count because you have a loyal following and we think your books are great, and always wait impaitently for you to get us the next story in the series as fast as possilbe. So forget that…The only reviews that count are from your fans, and the publisher when they want you to continue the series for a few more books… Must be doing something right!
by Christine Milone · December 4th, 2009 at 9:49 pmAs to having to much to do, I am right on that one with you, sometimes I get overwhelmed I actually wind up doing nothing, but other times, I try to do 10 things at once and somehow manage to get them all right, just depends on my mood at the time..
Am looking forward to the end of the month, as usual I will start bugging my local book store to see if I get lucky and its come in early!
Take Care, and again, fantastic blog! well done!!
Congrats on Wolf Tales 9, Kate. And don’t let the 2-star review get you down. What’s the old saying? You can’t please all the people, all the time so you might as well please yourself.
by Keena Kincaid · December 4th, 2009 at 10:49 pmI can’t wait to read Wolf Tales 9. I started reading the series for something to read and fell in love the chanku. I haven’t missed a one and I even got a co-worker to read them. I wouldn’t worry about the review, there not die-hard fans
by Cheryl Taylor · December 4th, 2009 at 11:17 pmWell, this huge procrastinator is currently looking at a mountain of boxes to be mailed and still a few last presents to make and send as well. Sigh. There are days when I wish I had the Chanku to whisk me away. Oh wait, I do.
I can just while away the time rereading the whole series waiting for the next exciting book. I love Mic and AJ and can’t wait for their backstory…well, can’t wait for their backsides either.
I never read reviews as they often do not match my own opinions.
Good luck with the dither… uh I meant with getting everything done on time.
by Jay · December 4th, 2009 at 11:20 pmAnitra, I’m convinced we were sisters in another life. Very scary!
Barbara, I have the same problem a lot of the time. It’s like there is just way too much to do, so I grab a good book and go read instead. Works for me!
Fedora, I do that on occasion, too. Make a list just so I have something to check off! If nothing else, it makes me FEEL like I’m accomplishing something. Either that or I go read…
Armenia–think of it as personal evolution! Besides, once you have kids, life sort of kicks your free time in the butt anyway, ya know? What’s more important? The kids, obviously! Enjoy. They really do grow up way too fast. (Says the grandmother of five!)
Mary, I will be posting an excerpt of Wolf Tales 10 as soon as I have the cover art for the book, and the death is in the first chapter. I’m going to put a spoiler alert on the excerpt for those who want to know and those who don’t, but I’ll be announcing the excerpt is up in my newsletter as soon as it’s posted.
Ooooh, Dianne! A GREAT? Wow! It’ll be awhile before I get one of those! Congrats to you. How neat!!
Thanks, Eva! Same to you.
Sheesh, Nancy. I do the same damned thing! I can waste time with the best of them, but when I put my head into it, I can get a lot of work done.
Thanks, Gloria…and I agree on the cover. I really think it’s one of the best so far. Plus, it’s got a different texture so that it’s almost creamy. Absolutely gorgeous!
Tracey, with the schedule you keep, you HAVE to make lists! (Though the Sunday idea works, too!)
Thank you, Latricia!
You’re going to embarrass me!
Thank you, too, Mary! Wow…I need to whine and whimper more often!!!
Thanks, Julie!!
Thank you, Kimberley–I have to admit, I do like the idea of turning things over to my personal secretary. Now, if I only HAD one! Hope your holidays are terrific, too.
Larena, you sound like me.
Take a deep breath. Relax. now ask yourself, if these things don’t get done, will puppies or small children be injured? No? then you’re gonna be fine!!!
Thanks, Phyllis. Cloning would come in so handy at times. Most of the time I’m running around like the Energizer Bunny, but this time of year it’s harder to catch up. I figure it’ll all get done at some point.
Martha–maybe we need a “ditherer’s club?” What do you think? And actually, I’ve often wondered about the adult ADD myself! I can sit and write for hours, but anything else and I’m usually drifting away before too long.
LLL, even at half-wattage I think you’re more organized than me! There’s nothing wrong with allowing yourself a momentary seduction as long as it leads to a really good book! I’m with you on the household chores–luckily hubby is a neat freak and the place is cleaner than it’s ever been now that he’s in charge!
Hey, Christine! I managed to drag you away from Facebook?
Thank you–I always wonder, when I blog, if I’m actually writing anything that anyone wants to read, so your very kind words are much appreciated. I mean, sheesh…there’s not even a romance in the damned things!
Keena, very true. I try to please me first, because I’ve decided that most of my readers like to read what I like to read! At least, that’s what I tell myself.
Thanks Cheryl, and thank you for hooking your co-worker! There’s no greater compliment to an author than finding out you’ve gotten a new reader via a “word of mouth” recommendation! That’s a wonderful compliment, and much appreciated.
I shoulda known…I see Christine here, you’re gonna be right behind her. And Tracey, too. I’m thinking maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to let you guys know each other. At least Rhonda hasn’t shown up yet! Thanks, Jay. think I’ll go dither a bit more…
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 1:19 amI don’t care what the reviewers say. It’s Wolf Tales. Can’t wait to get it.
by Beth · December 5th, 2009 at 1:59 amThanks, Beth. I don’t really care what they say, either. I DO care, though, what my readers have to say!
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 2:03 amKate, I have no set way of getting things done when I feel overwhelmed with all that needs to be done. Sometimes I just sit and ponder the universe cause that seems smaller than my list of gotta dos. Then I’ll tackle whatever I can’t get away with not doing for a while. Or my oldest child, CC, (the organized one) will come over and talk bad about me not getting everything out of the way. If I look sad enough, she’ll help me while fussing at me and before I know it, it is done. Or I’ll write out my list of what I need to do and the timeline in which I have to have them accomplished and turn on some James Brown and get my hips to shaking and my head to bobbing and I’m doing what I have to do and enjoying the beat and the work, and the universe. Depends on the bag I’m in as to what I do or put off doing.
About the critics and WT9, tell them to kiss yo grits. The critics didn’t make you the author you are, nor were their “words of wisdom” what sold your books and created your fan base. You got us involved with the Chanku and the individuals in the groups and the dynamics of that group. You write for us and we appreciate that. Because this book was written to answer our questions about the folks we love to read about, we WILL READ AND ENJOY this one as the others. Lives don’t have to be threatened and you’re hanging on for the next thrill to enjoy a good book. I have faith in you that this book will be accepted, enjoyed, and appreciated as the others. I think that I speak for your fans also. Lets talk about the success of this book a month or so after it’s released and you’ll see that it’s all good. Your fan and friend, Mo
by Mo · December 5th, 2009 at 2:37 amWhat one reviewer says is unimportant when weighed against all the fans that go out and buy your books. And seeing all these comments you’ve got to know I’m right!
Congrats on the soon-to-be released book, Wolf Tales 9!
by Sue A. · December 5th, 2009 at 5:31 amWe’re so proud of you and your books!
Kate, forget about what the reviews say. Your fans say it ALL! Looking forward to Wolf Tales 9 – can’t wait to get it!!
by Helen · December 5th, 2009 at 10:26 am
Dont worry about it Kate. I am a fan and let me tell you, I love to read stories that tell where characers come from and how they started their journies into the series. So you just keep own letting your heart and creativity guide you where ever with this story because I am enjoying the ride. And I love Anton and Keisha. And Oliver with his lady love.
by Ashley · December 5th, 2009 at 10:39 amGood morning, and Mo, thank you so much for the kind words. I could use CC around here some days. I like the sitting and pondering part so much more than the doing part of getting stuff done! Wonder why that is?
Sue A, I definitely agree. And the thing is, I often read books that others rave about and just don’t get them, so I don’t really have an issue with this one. It was more a sense of surprise that ANYONE wouldn’t just love Mik and AJ’s story!
Thank you, Helen! I’ve got such terrific fans…I will be perfectly honest and say that I never, EVER expected the kind of response to my stories when I first started writing Wolf Tales. You can’t imagine how gratifying it is to continue hearing from readers who love my Chanku like I do. It’s amazing.
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 10:44 amthanks, Ashley. I’m with you. Once I get to know a character in a series, I want to know more about them…like why they’re the way they are. As an author, I know some of what makes my characters tick, but it takes a project like writing WT9 to really find out the details. Seeing Anton as a child surviving on the streets and learning about Mik’s feelings when he got arrested and realized how much he’d disappointed the grandfather who raised him…those things tell me so much more about the character than I’d ever know otherwise. Thank you.
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 10:53 amHi Kate,
To heck with Romantic Times! I want
by Cecilia Calvin · December 5th, 2009 at 11:04 amWolf Tales 9 YESTERDAY!! You’re evil for making your fans wait!!!
Evil? Moi?
Actually, I have nothing to do with it, though I think getting a new book on the shelf every three months has to count for something! I’m doing my best…REALLY!
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 11:12 amOK…so here I sit typing a message on this and I have totally not started my Christmas decorating. No presents wrapped either. I am suppose to be doing the decorations right now….but first….well I got sidelined. I do know how many are coming to dinner and though not as many as you have I do not know what I am fixin except for the ham.
I need that book to hurry up and get here. I have been thru the complete series 3 times now and they are still just as good. I try not to read the short snips you post on the books because that just gets me needy. So after ready all the comments and expecially the #50 above with the little tid bit about Anton and Mik…..when it that book arriving…..dog, will be another 24 days and counting.
Please keep the journey going as you have as ALL us fans love your books. I look forward to the new series and getting just as involved in the people in it also. While waiting on Wolf Tales 9 to come out I am finishing the last book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J R Ward. I want to look into the Cheryl Brooks books you have spoken about. This is my favorite way of finding new authors….word of mouth from authors I love or the fans who love them.
by Cherrie Gamble · December 5th, 2009 at 11:26 amI am with the others in saying the as far a books and movies go I do not rely on reviews of other people. Some of my favorites have been review bad. I just happened to stumble on Wolf Tales IV and ordered it. I read it and was like WOW!. Then I found your site and rounded up all the others you had out at the time. I (included in your many, many fans) look forward to each book. I am like a junky needing a fix.
To you and all your family and fans have a wonderful holiday, be safe and best wishes to all for 2010 !!
Hi Cherie–thank you, and actually, Wolf Tales 9 will probably start showing up in stores in another week or so. My books almost always arrive early. I’ll know for sure when I get my author copies, as mine are shipped at the same time as they go out to the bookstores and online sellers.
I’m laughing at you reading blogs instead of doing Christmas stuff…I just pulled out baskets of Christmas cards going back for five years that I am going to go through today if it’s the last thing I do! I need to update my Christmas list if it kills me.
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 11:30 amHi Kate,
Can’t wait for the next Wolf Tales..I am having serious withdrawal from my Chanku addiction!!
As for what I do when I have to much to do and don’t know where to start…I make lists, lots of lists..they are all over my house…I find one I complete it then find another…lol Does anything get done on time? YUP! but sometimes by the skin of my teeth.
Happy Holidays!

All the time. I think I can waste more time than anybody I know.
by Janet H · December 5th, 2009 at 2:03 pmSometimes, I bribe myself with a good read — after I finish all my work.
A two star review won’t keepme from reading Wolf Tales 9!! I have it on preorder!!
by Amelia · December 5th, 2009 at 3:25 pmI can’t wait for Wolf Tales 9-and can’t wait to hear all the stories of how they met…it’s the readers who matter and I am a die-hard fan!
by darkreader · December 5th, 2009 at 3:50 pmI always get done what has to get done then read!!
It’s always good to get pimpettes together.
by jay · December 5th, 2009 at 5:41 pmHi Kate!
I’m pretty good at dithering. I usually have to tell myself that I’ve put something off long enough and then I just go and do it and get it done. I ‘ve found that there are not too many things that have to be done right this second (except for reading of course!). I just try to not get stressed out about housework any more – it’ll still be there tomorrow and I’ll get it done.
I hope you have a very merry holiday season!
by annalisa · December 5th, 2009 at 6:07 pmHi Kate,
When I don’t get my house crystal clean the only person it bothers is my husband, so I read, do laundry, and clean one room a day when I have time. Like other people have said your to do list will always be there tomorrow.
Have a Merry Christmas and may all your to do’s get done.
by Janice Robert · December 5th, 2009 at 6:47 pmCyn, I love it! Do you notice how many of us make lists? What I want to know is how many of us actually USE those lists!
Janet, I do that ALL the time. Finish this project, get to read, do that project, get to read…yep. I understand!
Thanks, Amelia! Those pre-orders really help me. I’m hoping to have LOTS of them for DemonFire so my publisher will smile benevolently upon me!!!
Thanks, darkreader. I think you’ll really enjoy this one. I sure hope you do!
True, Jay, and as the Queen Pimpette, you would known!
Thanks, Annalisa! AND, I have to tell you guys…I just finished typing the last name into an excel spreadsheet and formatting labels for those postcards I’m planning to send out for DemonFire. That’s only been hanging over my head since August!!!
Janice, my husband used to really get bugged about my housecleaning–or lack, thereof. Now that he’s reitred he’d doing the housework, and the place has never looked better! Thank about turning the job over to the spouse eventually. It’s made BOTH of us a lot happier!
And thanks for the well wishes! Happy holidays to everyone.
I will choose a couple of winners tomorrow evening, so be sure and watch this space.
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 7:53 pmKate my dear, I do read things other then romances, (tho not often, you knwo me so well) lol.. and I do get away from Facebook now and then, but only if its interesting, and your blogs are always interesting!
Have a great weekend!
by Christine Milone · December 5th, 2009 at 8:02 pmLOL! Sisters by a different mother is the term I’ve always used. Or, ala Anne of Green Gables, I would say that you and I are kindred spirits.
by Anitra Lynn McLeod · December 5th, 2009 at 8:24 pmDon’t sweat the review.
by Estella · December 5th, 2009 at 9:00 pmNot everyone likes every book.
Anitra…like maybe we share the same twisted nature? Hmmm…gotta think on that one! And if anyone reading this is looking for a really good, really super hot book, get Anitra’s Wicked Harvest. It’s excellent–and she’s also got a great story in Sexy Beast VII with me–a wonderful take on Beauty and the Beast. That was the first thing of hers I’d read, but I couldn’t wait to read Wicked Harvest after reading EYE OF THE BEHOLDER.
Thanks, Estella. I promise…no sweat!
by Kate Douglas · December 5th, 2009 at 11:04 pmI never got Beyond it.I’m always Catching up on some thing a big thing is my e-mail its always getting out of control list help but only so far as you do them and other thing don’t inter-fear whit what your doing.
by stacey smith · December 6th, 2009 at 3:04 amsasluvbooks(at)yahoo(dot)com
My son and I used to be movie “nuts” and would get the papers and read the reviews before going to the latest movie. We learned very quickly that we rarely agreed with the reviewers. I am sooooo looking forward to Wollf Tales 9 and do not care what the reviewer has said! I love what you have said about the book and can’t wait to buy a copy.
by Betty Hamilton · December 6th, 2009 at 9:16 amWhen I am overwhelmed at my to-do list, I try to knoch out the easy stuff first so that the list will be much shorter…much faster. Then I systematically get the other to-dos done with less stress.
Let me see…my next to-do list….READ Wolf Tales 9! Have a great day!!
Stacey, I rarely get caught up, either, which is why I’m so good at dithering! Sometimes it’s just easier to mess around and not actually get to the list of things to do!
Betty, I do like your ‘to do” list. I hope you enjoy it! In fact, I am really hoping to hear from any of you who read WT9, just to see what you HONESTLY think of the book–and please, always feel free to let me know when you don’t like something I write. I really do value your opinions.
by Kate Douglas · December 6th, 2009 at 9:49 amHi Kate! Thanks for the smile —-your “Dithering” is so much like what I do and have to deal with! Good to know Im not the only one going through stuff like that!
As for that Review. Dont sweat it. Readers rarely ignore a book just because of ONE bad review. The one and only “bad” review I ever received actually brought me MORE sales —-because readers wanted to see “the particular instances” the reviewer pointed out. She was being critical that the heroine was too weak willed. But, every reader thereafter said that they loved the heroine with her strengths as well as her vulnerabilities! Ahhhh, the irony! LOL!
Anyhoo! Wishing you a wonderful Christmas Holiday, dear friend! Remember…….. BREATHE!!
hugs, Kari Thomas

oh kate, you know you can hit that bullseye anytime you want to, heck I give you a hard time All the time! lol.. am looking forward to the newest release, got a new person reeading your books now, I think shes up to 4, but enjoying them!
by Christine Milone · December 6th, 2009 at 4:29 pmKate, if I had to pick my favorite movies because of glowing critical reviews I probably wouldn’t see many films at all, lol. In the end it is your readers who make or sell a book, and your stories are being enjoyed by readers and this is all that really counts!
To answer your question: when I have so much on my plate I can’t hardly decide what to do first..I go for a walk! I think walks really help wipe the perspective board clean.
BTW, love that guy’s tattoos!
by Anya Howard · December 6th, 2009 at 7:04 pmChris, if you ever STOP picking on me, I think I’ll worry! LOL…besides, you’re a long ways away so I feel moderately safe!
Anya, I’m with you on the walks. They really clear the head and put things in perspective, don’t they? We’re about a mile from a wonderful public forest filled with trails. When I need to get away, that’s where I go and it seems I always come back with a fresh perspective.
by Kate Douglas · December 6th, 2009 at 10:21 pmLOl.. thank you for that! Depends on my mood as to how much picking I’m gonna be doing..
by Christine Milone · December 7th, 2009 at 7:08 amCONGRATULATIONS to Gloria #28 and Kathy #17 who need to drop me a note at kate@katedouglas.com with their mailing addresses and choice of book. I will mail your copies as soon as I hear from you. And thank you to everyone who stopped by.
Kate, wishing all of you a very good and PRODUCTIVE week!
by Kate Douglas · December 7th, 2009 at 9:55 amBig congrats Gloria and Kathy!
by Danny · December 7th, 2009 at 1:30 pmThank you for the shout out, Kate!
by Anitra Lynn McLeod · December 7th, 2009 at 1:41 pmI’m a procrastinator myself, sometimes doing my own thing (like reading) just seems like the best thing for me to do so that is what I do. It usually always works out okay, every once in awhile it comes back to bite me in the a** cause I should’ve fgot something else done that day, but oh well life does go on.
