The holidays are over and we’re rushing toward 2010!
How did it all treat you? Did you get all the gifts you wanted? None of the gifts you wanted? Check out the suhweet Snuggie that Santa brought me!

So we’re just days away from 2010 and I’m super excited. I love the fresh start of a New Year. And I LOVE the romance of New Year’s Eve. Except, my New Year’s Eves has been so absolutely boring ever since I had a kid and dived headfirst in the world of single parenthood. Last year was the first time in YEARS I actually did something on New Year’s Eve. And even then, it ended up being kind of a dud evening (let’s not talk about how I decided to drink diet Red Bull and vodka–forgetting that I’d given up caffeine!).
Once upon a time I used to have wild evenings. Like, I-probably-shouldn’t-even-put-this-on-the-web-in-case-my-child-finds-it-years-from-now type wild. My New Year’s Eves used to be so much fun, so exciting, and so full of possibility on who I might meet. My offers lately have been from my parents, inviting me to play Scrabble and have dinner with them and their friends–oh, no, wait, not the dinner part, just the Scrabble. When did my life get so boring!?
I mean even if I got babysitting, all the fun parties and events seem to have dried up. For once I’d love to ring in the New Year with a fun date (are you out there man of my New Year’s Eve dreams?) or go to a fabulous event/party. SOMETHING! Some day again it’ll happen…some day.
So tell me, what are you doing New Year’s Eve? Anything amazing? Tell me! Let me live vicariously through you! Or maybe, is this all just part of growing up? Do we really just sit home and watch the ball drop on tv, while twittering the night away?
Here’s a song that somewhat encourages my New Year’s Eve obsession. It’s Harry Connick Jr. who positively makes me swoon when he sings (he’s not a bad actor either
)

I wish I could say I was doing something super fun but my Husband works over nights and has to work on NYE and my BFF will be gone so it will be me and some Caffeine free pepsi and some cookies
lol! IN some Jammies…. on the laptop…. lol….LAME!!!
by Aurora · December 27th, 2009 at 12:45 amNice snuggie. I have NO intention of posting a pic in sweats and pony tail.
We’ll be enjoying the northwest aura next weekend at at cabin on the Olympic Peninsula. A perfect place for us to revitalize and begin 2010.
by Julia Hunter · December 27th, 2009 at 1:08 amAurora, ah yay, someone else like me! Though too bad hubby has to work. You can steal the midnight kiss in the morning
Julia, I kind of hate you right now. I’m so jealous!!! Gah! You going to Hoh again?
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2009 at 1:13 amUgh. I’ve NEVER gone out on New Years Eve! I am terrified of all the drunk drivers out there on the road…and I’m going to pout this year because my husband won’t be here to kiss me at midnight
so I will just pout and go to bed early! How exciting am I?!
by Jammie · December 27th, 2009 at 1:29 amJammie, really?! Never?! Well we’ll hang out part of the day! Sorry no hubby kiss at midnight
Next year and every year after you’ll get to make up for it though! No going to bed early!!
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2009 at 1:33 amThis will be the first New Year’s Eve in 11 years that I won’t have a gig with my band. So, I’m pretty frickin excited at the endless possibilities, and to kiss my love at midnight, but most of all to be able to party it up like the rest of ‘em and not have to play catch up at 1am! We haven’t settled on our plans, though, after all the holiday madness, staying home sounds fine to me.
by hannah · December 27th, 2009 at 2:12 amLord, I hope to stay up to see the new year. Its hard to believe we have all survived (for the most part) the first decade of 2000. I’ll raise my toast now
To all who write, to all who read, may you find the story or your dreams.
thank you Stelli for writing such wonderful stories. Don’t get to hot in that snuggie.
by Nancy O'Berry · December 27th, 2009 at 10:50 amEvery single time I’ve made a date for NY it ends in disaster. Seriously. After the last time (stood up, I go to the club, he’s there with someone else) I vowed never again to have a date for NY.
So, what do I do instead? Stay home, watch junky movies, eat junkier food, and write out goals for the new year–not resolutions as those don’t work, but I write out what I’d like to accomplish. This includes such earth shaking things as: put in a small garden. Paint the kitchen. Write 3 novels this year. Stuff like that.
Although I would look more smashing doing my list while wearing that snuggie, I think I’ll just stick with my blankie.
by Anitra Lynn McLeod · December 27th, 2009 at 10:51 amHannah, I’m so glad you get a New Year’s Eve night off for once! Enjoy it and get in a huge smooch at the ring of midnight!
Nancy, you are such a sweetie! Thank you! I’ll definitely stay up until midnight! Probably will watch When Harry Met Sally (that makes me cry too!) I’m a sap. I love the transition from one year to the next! And we’re bringing in a new decade!
Anitra, we sound like one of a kind! Including our luck with men
Your night sounds like a good one I probably will mimic!
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2009 at 11:01 amMy hubby and I are on babysitting rotation this year. Which means all our friends go out and we take their kids. We went out last year and had a blast while another set of parents took all the kids. It’s really not too bad, though. We’ll rent movies, play hide-and-seek in the dark, do sparklers, eat junk food….
And, I’m sorry, but I’m not posting a picture of me with my glasses, ponytail, and pink snuggie.
Happy New Year!
by Christina · December 27th, 2009 at 11:35 amLove the Snuggie. *wants one!*

by sadangel · December 27th, 2009 at 11:40 amSir and I plan to be on the phone together for his Midnight and for mine! It will be a quiet New Year’s but an oh so good one with Him in my life. Hopefully next year we will be together in the same place for New Year’s.
And the benefit is no hangover and I don’t have to deal with drunk drivers on the road.
by Anitra Lynn McLeod · December 27th, 2009 at 12:39 pmShelli,
Did you call me a Hoe? LOL Yes, we’ll probably take a hike in the Hoh rainforest…I have some pics from a February trip at http://www.julia-hunter.com/Blog/tabid/1225/PostID/91/Writing-Retreat.aspx
The trade off for the weekend away is that I’ll miss the fabulous Alexis Morgan speak at the Greater Seattle RWA meeing.
by Julia Hunter · December 27th, 2009 at 12:46 pmI’m just working. I did spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with family though. it was nice and relaxing.
Happy Holidays, Shelli!
by Sasha White · December 27th, 2009 at 3:01 pmChristina, that sounds like an awesome idea! A babysitting rotation? I actually like doing years in with kids celebrating. But having a year out would be a lovely change
Sadangel, sometimes the phone thing can be just as awesome! Great you have someone to talk to at midnight!
Julia, love those pics! Was so disappointed when I went in summer and it was all brown. I must go back!
Sasha, hope you have fun that night
And happy holidays to you as well!
by Shelli Stevens · December 27th, 2009 at 6:27 pmShelli, my husband has to work this New Years Eve so my plans won’t be very thrilling, lol. The kids and I will probably pop open a bottle of sparkling grape juice and watch the ball descend from Time Square on TV. Nice, but not the same without DH.
Nice snuggie!
Happy Holidays everyone
by Anya Howard · December 28th, 2009 at 1:08 pmWe always do dinner and a movie on NYE…we try to stay up for midnight, but half the time we’re propping one eye open to see if that ball drops. (and if Dick Clark’s there)
Shelli, we have to find you a date: a good one. And Anitra, a pox on men who make dates then go out with someone else. What a fool…
And when, pray tell, is the fabulous Alexis Morgan speaking? Huh? When? Never mind, I’ll go ask her.
Happy 2010 every one…
Bonnie
by Bonnie Edwards · December 28th, 2009 at 3:10 pmAnya, love the sparkling juice! So yummy.
Bonnie, yes, find me a date
Health insurance in Canada WOOT! Alexis is speaking on Saturday at our chapter meeting!
by Shelli Stevens · December 28th, 2009 at 7:00 pmI think my husband and I actually fell asleep before midnight, which is somewhat losery. However, we fell asleep together after a pretty great night, so I’m trying not to feel too bummed about that!
