Her boss, the heiress to the <strong>Barhydt-O’Driscoll Shipping Company</strong>, had discovered Mr Barhydt-O’Driscoll Shipping Company <strong>red-handed</strong> doing something indecent with the <strong>chambermaid </strong>and a<strong> sugarcane</strong> and in response had retreated under the <strong>bedcovers </strong>for a month. Since her return, a week ago, she had, without a <strong>by-your-leave</strong> or apology, dumped applications on Sirene's desk every morning and, although housekeeping was hardly Sirene's<strong> métier</strong>, had demanded suitable 'help' be engaged asap. Sirene gazed at the florid<strong> bougainvillea</strong> gently waving outside the window and hoped that sacrificing her boss on the New moon would be enough of a <strong>payoff</strong> for all this irritation.
