It’s spring at last! A young man’s fancy may turn to love (and baseball) but writers seek inspiration—well, this one does, anyway. I hope you enjoy my departure from my normal blog. . .
I love inspirational quotes/sayings any time of the year, but am especially fond of them in the spring. After all, it’s a time of rebirth, hope and all that stuff. So, after a record setting winter in most places, I thought I’d attempt to bring a breath of freshness and share a few of my favorites with you. Your assignment, should you decide to accept it, is to leave a comment and maybe share some of your favorite saying/quotes. You might even win one of my books.
I have a little voodoo type doll with wild, electrified looking rope hair. In her hands is a sign: If you are what you eat, I’m cheap, fast and easy. It always makes me smile. I can so identify. Especially with a deadline looming!
For years, I’ve had a framed picture in my laundry room of a fluffy couch with an open book on one cushion, a discarded feather duster on another and a half empty coffee mug on the floor. The saying is: Dull women have immaculate houses. My husband is fond of saying life with me is never dull, so again I felt this was so me. Although, in my defense, I have been known to have an almost compulsive urge to clean at times. . .like when a deadline is looming.
No one notices what I do until I don’t do it is another favorite that speaks for itself. On many levels. Did you ever notice how your house can been perfect for days or even weeks and the one time you fall off the wagon and hang out in your robe and fuzzy slippers with dishes on the counter it ensures someone will come to the door? Especially true for a writer on a tight deadline. I refer to it as the Murphy’s Law of the work-at-home crowd.
Love like you’ve never been hurt; Work like you don’t need the money and Dance like no one is watching has long been a favorite quote of mine. I always envisioned it hanging somewhere in my home, probably my office. . .and it, too, has a place of honor in my laundry room. Yeah, I know, I spend a lot of time in there—I suspect I am addicted to the smell of fabric softener. Of course, it’s a family joke that I’m also addicted to the smell of freshly sharpened pencils and the aroma of office supply stores. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels comforted by the smell of books, either.
Everyone has a book inside them—I just fed mine a box of chocolates. Okay, on my current deadline, this one is probably the most appropriate, as my scales will testify.
And if A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind is true, I’m delighted to report my mental health is excellent! In fact, after I sent in my previous book, I took a little time to excavate my desk from the mountain of papers it had amassed and was surprised to see I actually have a little inlay on it. I didn’t remember it!
Years ago, before I sold my first book or article, I framed a discreet looking sign that is still in a place of honor on my little bookcase here in my office: Writing without selling is like acting without applause. Although many writers feel a great love and affinity to the actual process of putting words to page to create a story, I think in the back of most of our minds this saying rings true. I do know I view it with an entirely different attitude since I sold. No matter how many Happily Ever After endings I write, I’m anxious to begin the next story.
And, finally, framed above the French doors coming into my office, is the saying my husband and I adhere to: Real love stories never have endings.
Happy Spring! I wish you all never ending love stories.
